Bear Archery Montana 64" 40 Pound Black Maple Traditional Right Hand Longbow AFT2040140

The Montana longbow was first introduced in the late 90s and has become a very popular for its clean and classic form. This bow was designed by one of Fred Bear's long-time bowyers, Grant Neil Byce II. The bow's slightly reflexed design, tapered limb lamination, leather grip, and slim tips make this longbow big on performance and value.

  • Leather grip - the leather "shoot-off-the-shelf" arrow rest allows for clean arrow flight
  • Limbs - overlaid with clear white maple, backed and faced with high strength black fiberglass
  • Tips - handcrafted with layered black and white fiberglass
Features:
  • 64" AMO Length
  • Dynaflight 97 Flemish String
  • 40 Pound

    It's a fantastic longbow!

I am VERY happy with this bow. I am 35 y/o guy and bigger than most with a longish draw. I shot olympic recurve in competition for years and although I enjoy shooty things, I have neglected actual archery for about 13 years now since graduating college. I wanted a forgiving traditional bow to learn on and settled on this. I decided I would start with lightweight tackle and focus on the basics like I was taught by my old coach. The differences being three finger under shooting, split vision aiming and some new to me tuning tricks. All I can say is WOW. This bow is smooth, quiet and stacks very evenly throughout the draw. Fit and finish is typical Bear and is heirloom quality. The string is a Flemish twist style and although some people complain about it, it looks good and works well on the bow. This bow is not a speed demon but I might throw on something slicker when I need a new string. I have Bear bows from my grandpa and dad that were made in the 1960's - The Montana is equally as nice. I was slapping arrows at 15 yards an hour after getting the thing out of the box. I am stoked to move from the backyard to shooting 3D this summer. It feels right and does not feel or look cheap like some of the imported sub $200 bows. I looked at bows at Cabelas and other shops for months before pulling the trigger. Sadly there is not a lot out there in the mainstream retail market to fill the needs of the traditional shooter. There are a lot of price point bows and most are cheaply made hunting recurves. I am frugal and wanted something that was going to be a good buy for the money, built well and have soul and this checked all the boxes. Packaging from Walnut Creek was excellent and the bow arrived in great condition. on a Friday. They even called to confirm the order and were great to deal with. What more can you ask for?
